When should you convert HEIC to PNG?

PNG is useful when your next step is editing an image, preserving a transparent background, or uploading to a service that specifically accepts PNG. It compresses the rendered pixels without introducing another lossy encoding step. For ordinary photo sharing, JPG will often produce a smaller file; for web publishing, try WebP.

How to convert a batch to PNG

  1. Choose or drop your HEIC or HEIF photos in the converter above.
  2. Keep PNG selected. Choose original dimensions or a smaller longest edge.
  3. Optionally enable Keep metadata. Enable Include GPS location separately if you want location information in your downloads.
  4. Convert, check the per-file result, then download each PNG or save the batch as a ZIP.

Does PNG keep the original quality?

PNG saves the decoded, rendered pixels losslessly. This does not mean the entire HEIC file is preserved: colour conversion, HDR rendering and resizing can change the result. The quality slider is disabled for PNG because it does not control PNG compression. Keep the HEIC original for archival work.

Will transparency and metadata survive?

Supported alpha transparency is preserved in PNG. Metadata is excluded by default. Keep metadata transfers supported capture dates, camera and lens make/model, and exposure details as EXIF. GPS requires its own checkbox. The app does not copy MakerNotes, serial numbers, thumbnails or XMP. Some image viewers do not display PNG EXIF even when it is present.

Why can a PNG be much larger?

Photographs contain fine detail that PNG may not compress as compactly as HEIC or JPG. If the result is too large, resize it or choose another output format. A batch accepts up to 30 files, 25 MB each and 150 MB combined; images above 40 megapixels are not supported. Results also have a 150 MB combined limit.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Image decoding, metadata transfer and downloads are prepared in your browser. The website still receives normal requests needed to load its files; our privacy notice explains the distinction. This converter exports one still image per input, not Live Photo video or every frame of a multi-image HEIF file.
