Why use WebP for a PNG image?

WebP can be helpful for publishing photographic PNGs or transparent graphics on sites that support it. Actual savings depend on the picture. Compare edges, text and gradients before using the result, especially for screenshots and interface artwork.

How to convert PNG to WebP

  1. Choose your PNG images, or drag them into the converter.
  2. Keep WebP selected. Choose original dimensions or a maximum longest edge. Adjust quality to suit your next step.
  3. Click Convert and review each result. Download individual files or prepare a ZIP for the batch.

Is this a lossless PNG to WebP converter?

No. The browser encoder uses a quality setting and should be treated as lossy even at 100%. Keep the PNG original when exact rendered pixels matter. The quality slider changes encoding quality; it is not a promise of a particular percentage of file-size reduction.

Does WebP retain a transparent background?

Yes, alpha transparency is retained in supported still images. This does not remove an existing opaque background. Animated PNG files are rejected rather than silently turning an animation into a still frame.

Can I keep photo metadata?

Metadata is excluded by default. Keep metadata transfers supported EXIF capture dates, camera and lens make/model, and exposure information when present. GPS location has a separate opt-in. MakerNotes, serial numbers, thumbnails, XMP and other unsupported fields are not copied. Check the status beside each result; not all image viewers display EXIF in every format.

Limits and privacy

Batch convert up to 30 files, 25 MB per file and 150 MB combined. Images above 40 megapixels are rejected. Results also share a 150 MB limit. Decoding and conversion run in your browser without photo uploads. Use a current browser; its available memory and encoder support affect conversion.
