When is PNG the right output for WebP?
PNG is helpful for image editors, design workflows and upload forms that require it. It supports alpha transparency, which makes it a useful alternative to JPG for cutouts and logos. A converted PNG can be much larger than its WebP source.
How to convert WebP to PNG
- Choose your WebP images, or drag them into the converter.
- Keep PNG selected. Choose original dimensions or a maximum longest edge. PNG does not use the quality slider.
- Click Convert and review each result. Download individual files or prepare a ZIP for the batch.
Does PNG recover detail from a compressed WebP?
No. PNG saves the decoded pixels losslessly, but cannot recover detail discarded by a lossy WebP encoder. Browser colour handling and resizing can also change the result. Keep original dimensions if you do not need a smaller image; the quality slider does not apply to PNG.
Will transparency and animation be preserved?
Supported alpha transparency is preserved. Animation is not supported: animated WebP files are rejected with a message. This converter does not create SVG paths, remove backgrounds or upscale images.
Can I keep photo metadata?
Metadata is excluded by default. Keep metadata transfers supported EXIF capture dates, camera and lens make/model, and exposure information when present. GPS location has a separate opt-in. MakerNotes, serial numbers, thumbnails, XMP and other unsupported fields are not copied. Check the status beside each result; not all image viewers display EXIF in every format.
Limits and privacy
Batch convert up to 30 files, 25 MB per file and 150 MB combined. Images above 40 megapixels are rejected. Results also share a 150 MB limit. Decoding and conversion run in your browser without photo uploads. Use a current browser; its available memory and encoder support affect conversion. Read our privacy notice for website traffic handling.
