When is PNG useful for a JPEG photo?

Choose PNG when an editor or upload form requires it, or when you want to avoid another lossy compression step while saving the rendered image. JPG is usually more compact for photographs, so keep the original for sharing when file size matters.

How to convert JPG to PNG

1. Choose your JPG or JPEG images, or drag them into the converter.
2. Keep PNG selected. Choose original dimensions or a maximum longest edge. PNG does not use the quality slider.

Does JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG cannot restore detail already lost in JPEG compression. It saves the decoded pixels without further lossy encoding, but resizing and browser colour rendering can still change those pixels. A PNG copy may be substantially larger than the JPEG.

Will my JPG get a transparent background?

No. JPEG has no alpha transparency. Converting it to PNG preserves the existing background; it does not remove that background or turn the image into a vector.

Can I keep photo metadata?

Metadata is excluded by default. Keep metadata transfers supported EXIF capture dates, camera and lens make/model, and exposure information when present. GPS location has a separate opt-in. MakerNotes, serial numbers, thumbnails, XMP and other unsupported fields are not copied. Check the status beside each result; not all image viewers display EXIF in every format.

Limits and privacy

Batch convert up to 30 files, 25 MB per file and 150 MB combined. Images above 40 megapixels are rejected. Results also share a 150 MB limit. Decoding and conversion run in your browser without photo uploads. Use a current browser; its available memory and encoder support affect conversion.
